200% Welcome Bonus: Up To £200 Free
When it originally launched in 2006, Sun Bingo was just another attempt from a mainstream media company trying to grab a little extra revenue on the back of its brand. The UK’s most popular newspaper actually took the idea from a promotion they had run. A bingo ticket was placed inside every copy that was sold, which could then be used during a game broadcast online. Similar promotions are still run today but are far less common due to the emergence of online bingo.
Since 2006 the site has come a long way. Just two years into their partnership with Virtue Fusion they decided to cut their ties to the software developer in favour of the Gamesys package, used on sites such as Jackpotjoy and Fabulous Bingo. Since then they have gone from strength to strength, increasing in popularity and offering some of the biggest jackpots in the market.
The Sun Bingo website doesn’t really win any awards for innovation. In fact, it’s quite plain and boring if I am completely honest. When you first visit the site you are (currently) greeted by a somewhat annoying and frankly impeding splash page which automatically plays a video. That video in itself breaks pretty much every user experience rule out there and I would expect better from a company as large as The Sun. Additionally, the background colour of the website is far too harsh on the eyes for those on a high quality computer monitor and can begin to strain the eyes after half an hour or so of continuous use.
Beyond those easily fixable flaws, the site does its job well. Navigation is simple and the sites features are extremely well laid out. Iron out the few creases and they’re really going to have a strong offering.
As previously mentioned, The Sun moved over to Gamesys in 2008 in an attempt to break away from the usual turnkey offerings that non-specialist bingo operators present their user base. Offering their players a different system has really paid dividends, with both readers of their publication and international players flocking to their site to partake in a thoroughly enjoyable game of 75, 80 or 90 ball bingo.
Those of you that prefer to indulge in slots instead of bingo from time to time will find a varied selection to choose from. There are house exclusives such as Mystic Meg, Dream Team and The Sun Winning Headlines on offer but those that prefer to stick to the familiar will also be pleased to find Alice in Wonderland, Deal or No Deal, X Factor and Bejeweled available as well.
While The Sun don’t particularly excel here, they most certainly hold their own. New players can take advantage of a 200% first deposit bonus on all deposits up to £100, allowing for a respectable £200 bonus. This is then backed up by a further 50% bonus on your second deposit, again limited to £100. That’s a solid £250 in bonuses straight off the bat. Combine that with their daily free bingo games, topical promotions themed to major news events such as their Olympic bingo cards and their huge competitions and you have some great opportunities to win some incredible prizes.
As far as major publications and high street brands go, The Sun have the best bingo offering of the lot. In fact, I feel they out perform the vast majority of specialists within the industry. I have absolutely no hesitation in recommending them and if they just fixed those issues on their website I feel they could quite easily compete for the various site of the year awards.
